The visitors made Saltash work hard for their win in warm pleasant conditions for running rugby. Both sides were feeling each other out in the early exchanges and the scoreboard was kick-started on the quarter hour when Saltash fly half Harrison Reburn kicked a penalty goal for a 3-0 lead. Lanner Full back Ben Prout levelled the scores at 3 apiece with a penalty kick on 18 minutes.
The home side built pressure on the Lanner line, with flanker Phil Eatwell going through the narrowest of gaps to canter in from the 22 to score a try, converted by Reburn.
A further period of pressure saw the Ashes close to the line and fly half Reburn danced around the defence to dive under the sticks for a try which he converted for a 17-3 lead on the half hour. Prout added a penalty goal to close the gap slightly to 17-6 at the break.
The visitors were on the board first in the second half as they added a penalty in the 45th minute, closely followed by a well taken move that put Lanner winger Bevin Stone clear on the left to score a try to narrow the gap to 17-14 with 20 minutes remaining.
Saltash recovered from having 2 players in the bin and wound up the offence. Once in the Lanner 22 a well weighted chip from Reburn saw centre Shaun Crawford dive on the ball to score a fine try, which Reburn converted to ensure the league win. Congratulations to Ryan Kean on his senior debut.
