The warm dry conditions eventually played into the hands of the hosts as Saltash were held for 50 minutes then cut loose in a half hour of rugby that saw them put 43 points on Topsham, who up to that point had narrowed the gap to just 2.
The early exchanges saw Topsham score first with a penalty from scrum half Luke Edwardson, which was almost immediately cancelled out as Saltash score almost from the re-start through right wing Dom Mulberry, with fly half Harrison Reburn converting for a 7-3 lead.
Saltash had now been jump started and scored on the half hour as a sublime angle hit by number 8 Steve Hillman saw him go over on the left for a try, then a further score before the break put Openside flanker Phil Eatwell into space to score on the right for Reburn to add the extras for a 19-3 half time lead.
Whatever the Topsham coach said to his charges at the break had worked, as they came out of the blocks and scored 2 tries through Edwardson, who converted his own score and winger Ed Smale to bring the Devon side within 2 points of their hosts.
At this point, Topsham seemed to run out of puff and the Ashes cut loose in a frenzy of tries through replacement centre Nick Blake, who added a brace, Centre Kieran Down, who added a conversion replacement Prop Simon Nance, Phil Eatwell also added a second as well as full back/wing Ryan Cruikshanks and replacement back Ben Stean. With Blake and Reburn also adding a conversion each to end the day 62-17 to the good.
