The local community bus service which was launched as a pilot project last year will be continuing its service from Saltash to Derriford hospital amid fears of failure.
Recent worries over the lack of people using the bus service left organisers anxious over the success of the project if more people did not use it.
Community Enterprises PL12 set up the service at the request of local people as there is no direct commercial route from Saltash to Derriford hospital.
The bus operates weekday returns directly from Saltash in Cornwall to Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital.
After a campaign to gain more attention for this project and by talking to passengers and gaining feedback the community group now see an increasing trend in the use of the service and are happy to announce the service will continue.
The 16-seater was provided through the Department for Transport’s minibus fund, and start-up costs helped by a £5,000 grant from Saltash Town Council.
Now with the popularity of the bus service growing PL12 are confident the service will survive.
However, the community group had to take a few steps to improve the service and adjusted their running times. The service will no longer run the 08.00 & 18.45 to Derriford, (returning from Derriford main site 09.15 and 20.15).
Community PL12 State on their website:
We are very much a community transport service and want to support PL12 to the best of our ability and whilst we are a ‘not for profit organisation’ we do need to cover our cost so please encourage your friends, family and colleagues to consider using the Derriford Service.
A successful pilot phrase will enable us to continue with this valuable community transport service from Saltash.
